Sponging Technique with Tasteful Textures

Today I am late with my post – to be honest I am a couple of days late – but I have a good reason!

On Saturday evening our house was struck by lightening!¬† A big flash, bang and the strong smell of ozone – it fried our cable service (internet, TV), all the switching powers supplies for various electronic devices ( including our phone service!) then a TV and the dishwasher! So we have spent the last couple of days piecing our lives back together – Friday we go shop for a dishwasher! ūüôā

I have a video technique to share today which shows a simple but very effective technique – sponging – I use it a lot in my cards and other projects and I think it benefits from revisiting from time-to-time.

We are in the last couple of weeks for the Stampin UP! 2018 – 2019¬† annual catalog which means that stamp sets and other products will be retiring and there are some of my favorites among them.¬† So I am going to use my blog posts to share some of the things that are retiring – along with links so that you can put in your order so you don’t miss out.

Poppy Parade, Crackle Paint ~ Just a Note…..

Sometimes you just need a card so you can send a message, nothing specific but just a note.¬† It could say thinking of you inside or thank you, speedy recovery ~ I guess just about anything that will make someone’s day when they open the envelope.

The Crafting Forever stamp set has a stamp with just 3 pens and I love it, I have paired it with the Crackle Paint Background Stamp then rooted around in my stash to find the “Just a Note…. greeting which is from one of the Saleabration sets (now no longer available ūüė¶ )

Embossing Lovely as A Tree ~ Video Tutorial

I am not really sure what to call this technique and I have seen it used in various places, but is produces such a pretty effect and is really quite easy to do, as I show in the video.

I chose to use the Lovely as a Tree Stamp Set along with the Woodland Embossing folder.  As this stamp set does not have any greetings I used one from the Eastern Beauty Stamp Set and created a thank you card, but it would work as a really great card for the fellas in our lives or maybe a Christmas card simply by changing the greeting.

Abstract Impressions ~ Thank You Card

Every year Stampin’ UP! introduces 5 new colors that are available for 2 years, at the end of this time, the IN-Colors as they are known, are retired, Coastal Cabana was one of those¬† colors.¬† ¬†Earlier this year Stampin’ UP! revamped some of it color families and thrill of thrills Coastal Cabana reappeared as a new core color in the Brights family.¬† I have used it a lot in the last few months, if you check out my last post I used it for a scrapbook page.

I used Abstract Impressions on todays’ card and paired Coastal Cabana with Pool Party – a perfect combination in my mind!

A Touch of Vintage ~ Graceful Garden

In 2006 our Best Man got married himself.¬† The wedding was held in a Scottish Castle which had its own private chapel where the service was held.¬† All the guests and the Groom gathered in the gardens and we were led to the chapel by a piper in full Scottish dress.¬† The bride arrived with her own piper a few¬† moments later.¬† ¬†I just love the bagpipes (not to everyones’ taste I know) but¬† Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and I do!

It was a memorable day and each year I send them a card to commemorate their lovely day, this year I chose a rose from the Graceful Garden Stamp Set and the greeting is from the Beautiful Bouquet Stamp Set.
