Oh boy …………… do I love my Big Shot – from the very first time Stampin’ Up! started to sell it in 2008 to the present day it has been a part of my work bench – close and ready to use when needed. Over the years the die cutter itself has not changed much but the accessories and dies now available are fantastic offering a whole range of designs and techniques, many of which I have shown in various cards and project on this blog.
So I think it is time to revisit the Big Shot – if you don’t have one you should certainly make the investment – and if you do but it doesn’t get used much – may be this post will encourage you to dust it off – purchase a few new products to use with it and make it your best buddy again!
It comes with the a platform and a set of cutting pads, so you can be productive from the second you take it out of the box!
If you purchased one before June 2016 you will have recieved the old style platform, Stampin’ Up! have introduced a new 2 part platform specially designed to work with the wonderful Thinlets and Framelit dies that are now available. So for good results you might want to go ahead and invest in a new Big Shot Platform.
Then we have the Magnetic Platform, it takes the place of the regular platform if you want to do precision cutting e.g. you stamp and image then want to use a framelit to cut it out precisely around your image – well the magnetic platform holds it in the perfect position – just a cutting plate above and below the card and die and you are ready to go.
Next comes the precision baseplate ~ this gives a good firm surface to use all the intricate dies like the Bloomin Hearts Thinlets Die, Detailed Floral Thinlets Die and the Butterfly Thinlets Dies.
And finally the Die Brush ~ a cute little tool to help remove your cut pieces from the intricate dies. It comes with a little foam pad which gives a soft surface to work on, gently roll it across the die and the pieces will pop out and your die cut is ready to attach to your card, scrapbook page or 3D project.
