Happy Birthday, Mum

Today my Mum celebrates her 85th birthday and I am in England with her and the rest of my family.  It is very difficult to find a gift for her as she really has all she needs.  But I would like to share a little story of my gift for her.

My Mum was  a very talented dressmaker, that is how she earned her living before she married my dear Pops.  She tried to teach me dressmaking but was never successful, but we both  always loved to stitch, cross stitch and free-form embroidery – we would sit and stitch together a lot……. until rheumatoid arthritis robbed her of the ability to hold the embroidery ring and needle.

She had started a cross stitch piece in her favorite blue and cream, but was unable to complete it, it sat in a box until I found it last year and asked if I could finish it for her.  I bought it back to the US where I now live and finished the stitching.  Not sure what to do with it next it sat in my work box for about 6 months until it dawned on me it would make a perfect gift for a milestone birthday.

I am thrilled with the result and I hope she will like it as well.
