Prized Peony ~ Watercoloring with a Twist Video Tutorial

Welcome back to my corner of the world

A little technique that came to me the other day as a happy accident, I love to do water coloring but I had stamped my image in the  water-based Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I could have re-stamped it but I hate waste, so found and empty Water Painter (formally Aqua Painter) filled it with some Isopropanol Alchohol and used my that to ‘watercolor’ my stamped peony.  I had such fun with it I decided to share with a video.

I used the Prized Peony Stamp Set which has stunning images of peonies as well as some greetings in a beautiful script, always a favorite of mine!

Tasteful Touches ~ Masking and Watercoloring Video

Welcome back to my corner of the world

We have gone soft and subtle today, the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper is just packed full of beautiful visual textures that makes great backgrounds for your cards.  I have paired this with the Tasteful Touches Stamp Set, Grey Granite ink and ribbon.

To build on the softness I chose to use a  watercoloring and masking technique to use the beautiful ‘peony’ looking flower and soft and ‘floaty’ sort of leaves in the stamp set along with a greeting that would be about perfect for any occasion.

Cling Stamps V’s Photopolymer – Video Tutorial

Welcome back to my corner of the world

I was asked the other day what the difference was between ‘Cling’ stamps and ‘Photopolymer’ Stamps – and that is a very good question.  After nearly 10 years as an SU demo I tend to forget there are folks that are new to this wonderful craft!

Basically they each do the same job – produces beautiful images for your crafting delight, they are made from different materials you just handled them a little differently. So today’s post explains how to handle them, attach labels, attach to acrylic blocks and keep them clean.

Birthday Bonanza Shaker Card ~ Video Tutorial

Welcome back to my corner of the world

Shaker Cards are such a lot of fun, especially for children but I am sure an adult would enjoy one as well!  It was our youngest granddaughters birthday last week so I thought a fun card would be just perfect, particularly as she will not be having a party with friends and extended family this year.

We later found out that she wanted an ‘elephant’ cake for her birthday – which her talented parents made for her – so the Birthday Bonanza DSP, with the cute animals, I used for her card turned out to be in the right theme!

Very Versailles Shabby Chic Birthday Card

Welcome back to my corner of the world

Oh, I am so excited with today’s card – I made it for my sister’s birthday last week , I  wanted to do something ‘vintagy’ as that is very much her style. Unusually for me I have used two stamp sets for this card, Very Versailles and Artisan Textures (soon to retire – so order yours now!)

I am not sure whether you call it vintage or shabby chic – what is the  difference or is it  the same thing? ! Anyway I used a number of techniques and materials to create the effect – sponging, distressing, multiple layers of stamping, then lace, twine, pearls and vellum.

Double Embossing Technique with Parisian Blossoms Suite ~ Video Tutorial

Welcome back to my corner of the world

I think today’s card would work for just about any occasion so I did not put any greeting on it at all.  To be honest I don’t think it needed it – there is such a lot going on a greeting would have been just too much!

I am featuring a double embossed technique – starting with an embossing folder – sometimes known as ‘dry embossing’ then followed up with heat embossing where embossing powder is melted onto your card using a heat gun!  I am waving a fond farewell to a several products that are retiring at the end of May (available while stocks last) Copper Embossing PowderParisian Beauty Bundle, 1 5/8 Scalloped Circle, 1 1/8 Scalloped Circle and 1″ Circle Punches.

Pretty Handmade Gift Box

Welcome back to my corner of the world

I make and share  lot of cards on my blog, I was working on some designs one evening and looking for a change and some inspiration and there was some off-cuts of Designer Series Paper on my work bench.  I decided a box would make a nice change ~ so I started with the largest piece of DSP to make the lid then worked backwards to make the base of the box, choosing one of the colors from the paper.

I share the ones I made below but set myself a challenge with the video to create a box for a Bath Bomb from scratch (keeping my fingers crossed all the time that it would work out)
