Advent Calendar – Countdown to Christmas ~ Day 23

When Elly, my friend from the UK, and I designed the advent calendar back in early October I wanted day 23 to show the warmth and coziness of creating a new home.   December 23rd is a special day in our family as it is our youngest son’s wedding anniversary – yep 2 days before Christmas – it was a magical day full of love and sparkle and Father Christmas (as he is known in the UK)  came to hand out the wedding favors!

You will want to open each post, as there will be a little treat behind each one!  Some days it might be some virtual ‘candy’ or sweeties as we call them in the UK, other times it might be a card, 3D project or a video!

Each of the squares start with a 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inch base with 4 little magnets stuck to the back with glue dots.  The primary colors are  Real Red, Old Olive, Smoky Slate and Soft Sky. Ink Colors included those above, plus two neutrals of  Tip Top Taupe and Early Expresso.

December 23rd brings us to the cutest little Gingerbread House – this looks like a lotta work – right?  The Candy Cane Lane DSP made really light work of this as it contains a couple of sheets just filled with these adorable houses,  all we had to do was fussy cut around  it, add a little of the fine tip glue and some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the roof and chimney pot and we were done.  It really helps that the Metallic Enamel Shapes have hearts and stars for the final embellishments.

Today’s Virtual Treat:

A peaceful blend of colors and a perfect sentiment!

Card base: 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 Smoky Slate Card ~ scored @ 4 1/4

Layer 1: 5 1/4 x 4 Pool Party Card

Layer 2:  5 x 3 3/4 Whisper White Card

Ink Colors: Smoky Slate, Pool Party and Versamark

The card uses a ‘resist’ technique ~ the snowflake images are heat embossed in white embossing powder then a sponge is used to gently apply ink so the snowflakes ‘pop’ out of the card.

‘Peace’ is cut from silver foil using the Christmas Greetings  thinlets and the Big Shot and attached to a piece of vellum before attaching to card, a couple of glue dots were placed behind the letters of ‘peace’ so they would not show.
