Mystery Stamping with Lovely Friends

Last Sunday evening my Stampin’ UP! grandma organised another mystery stamping event on our teams Facebook page.  It is the latest in a series she had done over the last few years and they are a lot of fun.

She starts by giving us a list of supplies, this time it was a card base plus a layer, a Whisper White oval, some ribbon and linen thread, then to choose a stamp set with flowers and greetings and two ink pads.

Then during the event she gave us a series of instructions,

  • stamp flowers, use a stamping off technique to get variations of depth in our ink colors,
  • stamp greeting on the oval,
  • add a ribbon,
  • add a bow made from linen thread,
  • then  post a picture on Facebook!

So here is the result

Lovely Friends Stamp Set

Card base:  8 1/2 x 5 1/2 Whisper White Extra Thick Card ~ scored @ 4 1/4

Layer 1:  5 1/4 x 4 Whisper White

Ink Colors: Night of Navy and Old Olive.

I chose the ‘Lovely Friends’ Stamp Set using a 2 -step stamping which allowed me to use the stamped off Night of Navy on the first step, then full strength ink for the second step.

My greeting is from the same stamp set, the whole stamp reads ‘ AND you are……. one of the best’  ~ I think this was designed to be a stamp for the inside of the card, I really love the words and wanted to use it on the outside – so I simple placed a tiny piece of sticky tape over the ‘AND’ then inked up the stamp and right before I placed it on my oval card I took the sticky tape off the stamp and got exactly the wording I wanted.

The oval was cut using the Layering Ovals Framelits and the Big Shot – the framelits have lots of sizes so I was able to choose one that fitted my greeting and in proportion to my card.  I used a couple of dimensionals to attach the oval to make it pop a little.

My choice of colors was dictated by that Night of Navy 1/2″ gingham ribbon, I have wanted to use that since it was released in the new annual catalog.  It is so bright and fresh looking.  My linen thread bow is there as per instructions and then I added a couple of pearls ~ these were not part of the instructions but I gotta little more creative and isn’t what crafting is all about?  …….. just going with it and seeing what happens.
