Rooted in Nature Birthday for a Guy

Last week was my eldest nephew’s birthday, he is now in his early 30’s and lives in the UK –  I find it hard to make cards for the fella’s in my life but the Rooted in Nature stamp set gives me a great choice of ‘suitable for a guy’ images and words without being ‘too sappy’!

I used a masking technique to create the card along with my Sponge Brayer to apply the ink ‘ombre’ style.

Card base:  11 x 4 1/4 Crumb Cake Card ~ scored @ 5 1/2

Layer 1: 5 1/4 x 4 Mossy Meadow Card

Layer 2:  5 x 3 3/4 Very Vanilla Card

Ink Colors: Mossy Meadow

To create the mask I cut a piece of scrap card (the backing card from a pack of DSP is perfect for this) the same size as layer 2 – then punched a 2 1/4 circle ‘sort of’ the middle of the card – doesn’t need to be perfect ~ it is supposed to be artistic after all!  Holding the 2 layers together I applied ink using the sponge brayer building up the color toward the base of the circle and lighter toward the top.

Then I stamped the tree and sponged the edges then ran the layer thru the Big Shot with the Subtles Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing folder before adhering it to the Mossy Meadow layer with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

The greeting is punched with a 3/4 circle and layered onto one of the Corrugated Elements then attached with some Linen Thread.
